IBKR Desktop has a broad selection of advanced, market and company specific news and research available. The News and Research tool can be configured once opened. To access it, the user must first enter through a news tile in the right-side panel.

The news display is at the bottom of the panel on the right side of the screen. Scroll down the right-side panel to display the small news tile. Content is driven according to the last asset the user clicked on and shows a limited number of current news headlines for the selected asset. Either click a headline to access the article in the News & Research tool or click on “SEE MORE NEWS” beneath the headlines.

Navigation Panel

Navigate the tool using the left side menu. Here, the user can choose to display Daily Overview, Portfolio News, Watchlist News, items marked to read later and access previously Saved Searches and more.

From the Portfolio News section, the user may change the display layout choosing between headlines or sneak preview using the layout icon.

Tag an item you want to save and read later using the bookmark icon from within the article.

Users may select News, Research Reports or Market Commentary towards the top of the page beneath the search input field.

Articles display a timestamp to let the user know how current each is along with an expected read time and may be accompanied by a “flame” icon. “Hot” news may have potential market impact.

Submit an “Advanced” search to customize what news you receive including content type, importance, news sources, asset classes, read time, media type, date range and more. By clicking on each checkbox, the user may refine a search, and searches can also be saved and recalled at a later date. The importance selection field determines that “flame” icon highlighted earlier. Use the News Sources and Research Providers to select from available sources and to further refine the search output.

Users may determine which asset classes to include and whether they want brief or lengthy articles by selecting under Read Time. And users may also drive the media type to include or exclude text, video, images or attachments. Use the date range checkboxes to drive the time horizon of your news search.

When done, click on Submit Search button.

Users may save the Advanced search by clicking on the Save icon to the top of the display. Give the search a name and click Save. Then run it at any time from the Saved Searches section in the Navigation panel to the left.

Read Later

When inside an article, users may tag it for reading later by clicking the bookmark at the top of the page. Tagged articles can then be accessed from the Read Later section of the Navigation Panel.
