Finance has a cruel habit of making smart people feel stupid.
The vocabulary is essentially designed for a private club. CPI, PCE, quantitative easing, PMI, “hawkish,” “soft landing,” capex, yield curve. If you don’t already speak the language, you either ask questions and feel exposed, or you nod along and hope nobody notices.
IBKR InvestMentor is for anyone tired of that.
It’s a free learning app that turns financial jargon into plain English through short, interactive lessons and daily news explainers. It’s designed with students and early‑career learners in mind, particularly those coming from outside finance who want more confidence with money. That said, anyone who has ever felt one step behind the language of markets will likely find it useful.
Most learning products assume you show up motivated, focused, and ready to sit down for a while.
That’s not how people use their phones. Most of us open an app because something triggered curiosity. Maybe Nvidia just dipped 8%. Everybody’s talking about an oil shock. The Fed chair said something cryptic about the “lagged effects of policy tightening.” Someone at work mentioned petrodollars, and you have no idea what she meant. And why is Pepsi buying back its own shares?
InvestMentor is built around that moment. You can learn in two minutes, close the app, and still walk away with something useful.
What’s New in the Latest Update

InvestMentor’s simple goal is to explain markets clearly, one concept at a time. This remains unchanged. We’ve rolled out an update designed to support that goal in a more practical way. This should make it easier for users to keep learning consistently, discover new content, and turn occasional curiosity into something that actually sticks.
These three changes make the app easier to use and learn from:
1) Streaks and Rankings: A Habit, Not a Homework Assignment
InvestMentor now includes streaks and rankings, plus a calendar card that shows your learning history. You can see when you’ve kept up the habit, when you’ve fallen off, and when you picked it back up.
The point is not to guilt-trip you for skipping a day or even a week. Investing confidence comes from repetition, and we want to make that progress visible.
2) Smarter Ask AI: Answers That Lead Somewhere
Our Ask AI assistant already explains financial and economic concepts on demand. With this update, it also directs you to the most relevant lessons inside the app while you chat. This is a crucial change, making courses easier to find and tailored to your needs. This makes the AI tool more like a tutor than a generic chatbot.
You will still be able to use Ask AI exactly as before, asking it to explain anything related to finance or economics. Our lessons and daily news explainers will also continue to include AI links, allowing you to access more detailed explanations on tricky terms.
3) Announcements Center: Updates Where You’ll Actually See Them
A new Announcements Center, accessible from the bell icon on the home screen, brings all app updates into one, predictable place. The red dot on the bell will tell you if there is new content for you to view.
What’s Coming Next: More Ways to Learn
This update is part of a broader shift in how InvestMentor approaches learning.
Over the coming months, users will see a wider range of short, self-contained lessons designed to explain one concept at a time, whether that’s private credit, stagflation, emergency oil reserves, or hyperscalers. These are meant to be picked up quickly, finished in a minute or two, and understood without having to “start a course.”
For those who want more depth, longer courses will continue explaining entire systems, like commodities or stock markets, without turning them into homework. The idea is simple: learn one thing when curiosity hits, then opt into the full story when you’re ready.
Our news explainers will begin featuring curated weekly news quizzes and AI-generated daily quizzes based on our learning materials. We will also roll out a newsletter that will bring you the highlights of the week into your inbox.
Making Sense of Money
If you already feel fluent in finance, you probably don’t need IBKR InvestMentor. If you’re tired of googling unfamiliar market terms and curious to learn how the economy actually functions, you might.
InvestMentor isn’t trying to turn users into professional traders. It’s trying to make the language of markets less opaque and investing more accessible. Open the app when something doesn’t make sense. Close it knowing a bit more than you did before. Over time, that’s how confidence builds.
Head to our website to learn more. The app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
