Gasoline Prices Were Expected to Decline Slightly for Second Consecutive Week: May 26, 2026

On Tuesday, US gasoline costs when reported on the following day were expected to decline slightly for the second consecutive week after the prior two prints were $4.50 and $4.49 per gallon. But the result was projected to remain close to those levels, as the Interactive Brokers prediction market placed the most likely settlement price around $4.48, which would just be a penny under the previous headline. Indeed, the “No” contracts at the $4.50 and $4.45 thresholds were priced at $0.64 and $0.05, signaling a figure between those numbers.  The narrow range of potential outcomes was due to energy commodities remaining relatively confined in the past seven days, with WTI crude swinging above and beneath its near-term anchor of $100 several times.

Bank of Korea Not Ready to Hike

The Bank of Korea as of Tuesday appeared to be not ready to hike interest rates even as growth and inflation have been soaring in light of a booming semiconductor sector and the Middle East conflict driving up fuel expenses. The nation imports its energy, making it vulnerable to the lift in oil, and its weakening currency has also raised price pressures as arriving shipped products cost incrementally more to pay for in foreign tender. On Tuesday, it appeared that the country’s monetary policy authority would almost certainly remain on pause when meeting the following day as the Interactive Brokers prediction market placed a 97% likelihood of no change.
