To watch this video you must accept functional cookies.

IBKR Mobile provides an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface for investors to access their trading account, configure two-factor authentication and monitor their account all from their mobile device. In this lesson we will review:

  1. How to download IBKR Mobile on the iPhone
  2. Navigating the app and
  3. Configuring app settings

Downloading the IBKR Mobile app

Investors can download the IBKR Mobile app on their iPhone from the Apple App Store. In the App Store, search for IBKR Mobile and tap GET. Interactive Brokers’ offers additional trading apps, including GlobalTrader and IMPACT. This course will review the IBKR Mobile app but for further information on GlobalTrader or the IMPACT app, please see the dedicated Traders’ Academy courses.

Once installation is complete, tap OPEN to launch the IBKR Mobile app or locate the app in the iPhone App Library.

Navigating the IBKR Mobile app

The initial page of the app provides investors with two buttons:

  • I Have an Account

The bottom of the login page contains options for IB Key Authentication and Banking, which we will cover in later lessons. Investors can toggle on Paper Trading to login to their simulated paper trading account.

At the top of the screen, the investor enters their username and password and taps the login button. Along the bottom of the app is a menu bar with icons for Portfolio, Watchlist, Trade, Account, and More. The investor can tap any of these icons to switch between pages. We will go into further detail on these pages in later lessons.

Configuring App Settings

To configure app settings, the investor taps More, scrolls down, and taps Settings. A list will appear with Account Settings, Trading Settings, Display, Notifications, Security, Localization, and Advanced.

Account Settings will allow the invest to edit their profile, change their password, subscribe to live market data, and manage trading permissions.

Trading Settings allows investors to set trading presets for default orders by product class.

Display allows the investor to choose between light and dark mode, and enable or disable additional general configuration.

Notifications allows investors to manage and create alerts and delivery settings.

Security gives investors the option to enable Remember My Username, Auto-Reconnect, Read-Only Access, Privacy Mode, SSL, and use Two-Factor Authentication.

Localization provides options for color localization as well as language settings and display positions in base currency.

Advanced Settings is used to upload diagnostics in the event the investor needs to provide logs to our technical assistance team.

In later lessons we will review trading, monitoring the portfolio, creating watchlists, configuring two-factor authentication through IB Key, and more.

I am unable to link my checking account. When I put in my login credentials I am asked for a passcode. What passcode? I don’t get a text or an email or anything. What am I supposed to put there?

Do I need to convert US dollars to HK currency to buy HK stocks?

    • Interactive Brokers

Thank you for asking. Cash accounts must maintain a positive balance. In order to trade a foreign security, you must deposit or convert funds to the desired security’s currency, and the trade can be placed once the funds settle. For instance, if you carry Euros in your account and want to trade a stock on an American stock exchange, you will need settled USD funds. Please note that forex settlement generally takes place two business day following the sale transaction (Trade Date plus one business day: T+2).

Margin accounts allow you to trade without waiting for cash to settle or converting currencies. However, it is required that you meet the margin requirement in your account. Failure to meet these requirements will result in becoming subject to liquidation of assets to bring the account back into margin compliance. We hope this helps!

If I hold shares of a company, and the company pays dividends, how are they paid back to me ? Are they re-invested?

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello, thank you for asking. IBKR will reflect upcoming dividend payments as an accrual in client accounts on or shortly after the ex-dividend date. Upon receipt of the funds through our clearing agent or depository, the accrual will be reversed from the account and the cash dividend will be allocated to the Cash Balance of the account. This action typically will occur on the announced payment date of the dividend.
Clients may view the accrual reversals and the final cash dividend allocation on their daily or monthly account statements. Please visit this FAQ for instructions on how to run the statement:
      https://www.ibkr.com/faq?id=27290344
Also, IBKR offers a Dividend Reinvestment Program that is available to IB LLC, IB CAN, IB HK and IB UK clients only. Please view this FAQ for more information: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/faq?id=28226119

How can I submit the KID?

  • Marcus

I have done a cash deposit with wise. But it has been several days and I still have not received it in my account. What should I do?

    • Interactive Brokers

Hello Marcus, thank you for reaching out and we apologize for the delayed response. USD deposits from Wise to Interactive Brokers typically arrive via the ACH payment network. ACH deposits are subject to a 4 business day credit hold. Additionally, some deposits from Wise contain insufficient transaction details for us to verify that the deposit comes from a Wise account held in your name. Such deposits will be subject to additional Compliance review that may take up to 7 calendar days. To avoid these credit holds, link your Wise account with your Interactive Brokers account. Once linked, you can use your Interactive Brokers account to initiate a transfer of funds from your Wise account that will be available for trading as soon as the funds are received. Please review this FAQ for more information: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/faq?id=126545861

Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We would appreciate the opportunity to turn around your experience.

Hi Subodh, thank you for asking. Clients are not obligated to subscribe to market data through IBKR. If you elect not to subscribe to a paid service, delayed quotes (usually 10-20 minutes behind real-time quotes) will be provided at no cost, where available. In addition, while the lack of real-time market data will have no impact upon execution quality, IBKR strongly recommends against trading without a source of real-time quotes.

Hi, I got a referral from a friend to join IBKR, but he didn’t receive the 200$! Do I have to do something special in order he gets it? Thank you so much!

    • Interactive Brokers

As a Japan resident, do you info about the tax declaration process and how to get the tax form? Thank you!

    • Interactive Brokers

Hi, thank you for reaching out. If you are a non-US person, you will be prompted to submit a Form W-8 during the application process. This will designate your country of taxation and, if it is not the US, you are not subject to US taxes on your trading profits.
Virtually every country, however, imposes withholding taxes on dividends paid by local corporations to non-residents. The default rate is 30% although it may be lower if an international tax treaty involving your country exists. Please view this FAQ: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/faq?id=25487889
