Gasoline prices on Monday were expected to have resumed their weekly increase in the subsequent morning’s report after a 13-week streak of consecutive advances ended with a drop to $4.044 per gallon in last Tuesday’s print. Since then, the extended blockade of the critical Strait of Hormuz coinciding with continued disagreements between Tehran and Washington have lifted energy costs and worsened pain at the pump. As of Monday, there was even a chance of retail charges marching to a fresh year-to-date high of $4.13 in the publication, as the Interactive Brokers prediction market shows the probability of a figure north of $4.10 at 80%. For context, the weeks culminating on April 6 and April 13 printed figures of $4.12 and $4.123.
