Ex-Dividend Rule

Trading Term

This rule stipulates the date on which a stock begins to trade without its dividend. A stock will typically trade ex-dividend on the second business day prior to the Record Date. A trader who purchases the stock on or after the ex-dividend date will not be entitled to receive the quarterly cash dividend.
