The \u201cYes\u201d at 3% on the Friday prior to the Monday report was priced at $0.49, essentially depicting a 50-50 probability of an upside beat. Now, if you believed on Friday that rising energy costs last month could drive a hotter CPI, taking the over may have been a wise choice, as the figure could rise to 3.1% or 3.2%. However, if you anticipated that cooler inflationary impulses in the other categories impeded an increase, just like Friday\u2019s US August CPI, which matched July\u2019s 3.4%, then the \u201cNo\u201d for $0.51 would have been an opportunity.
