On Tuesday, the Bank of Canada was expected to keep its benchmark rate steady at 2.25% for its seventh consecutive meeting on the subsequent day. The monetary policy authority was likely to stay on pause even with inflation having accelerated to 3% and the economy having improved, with the second quarter producing annualized growth of 3.3%, the highest in three years. The reason for an unchanged level, meanwhile, was that above-target price pressures are almost entirely driven by what could be a temporary lift in energy charges, as the core cost gauge rose to just 2.3% in July from 2.1% in June. The Interactive Brokers Prediction Markets priced the chance of a hike at 4% while a hold carried a 96% probability, as the institution is still attentive to potential drags stemming from weak domestic demand and a complicated trade relationship with Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
