GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) released its\u00a0first-quarter financial results<\/a>\u00a0for the fiscal year 2024 earlier than anticipated, coinciding with the much-awaited return of Keith Gill, also known as \u201cRoaring Kitty,\u201d to YouTube.

The video game retailer\u00a0reported a net loss of $32.3 million<\/a>, an improvement from the $50.5 million loss in the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the company missed analysts\u2019 expectations on both revenue and earnings per share (EPS<\/a>), with net sales declining to $0.882 billion from $1.237 billion in Q1 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GameStop Misses Q1 Earnings, Plans to Sell Up to 75 Million Shares<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GameStop\u2019s gross profit for the quarter declined to $244.5 million from $287.3 million year-over-year. Selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expenses decreased to $295.1 million from $345.7 million, but increased as a percentage of net sales to 33.5% from 27.9%.

The company ended the quarter with $1.083 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, while maintaining limited long-term debt, primarily a low-interest, unsecured term loan from the French government\u2019s COVID-19 response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate announcement, GameStop revealed plans to sell up to 75 million additional shares of Class A common stock <\/a>through an Open Market Sale Agreement with Jefferies LLC, entered into on May 17, 2024. This move follows a previous sale of 45 million shares, which generated gross proceeds of approximately $933.4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new share offering, deemed an \u201cat the market offering\u201d under Rule 415(a)(4) of the Securities Act, could significantly dilute existing shareholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GameStop Stock Sees Extreme Premarket Volatility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As of June 6, 2024, GameStop\u2019s stock price closed at $46.55, with a pre-market price<\/a> of $42.78 at 7:26 AM EDT, representing a decline of 8.1%.

The stock has experienced extreme volatility over the past year, with a 52-week range between $10.01 and $48.75, and daily trading volumes ranging from 1,731,300 to 206,979,100 shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the mixed financial results, GameStop\u2019s stock has delivered a year-to-date return of +165.54% and a 1-year return of +91.48%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The significant pre-market surge in the stock price can be attributed to the anticipation surrounding Keith Gill\u2019s return<\/a> to YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
